rabbit hole
funnily enough, its not the first time i have titled a post “rabbit hole” – however it is the first time i have done so in reference to the brand spankin new track from the temper trap.
diggin it.

today i read the blog of an old…friend.
he writes exactly as he speaks, it’s quirky and endearing.
it’s him.
unexpectedly i stumbled across a post in which he mentioned this very blog – yes, he is the man mentioned in my about section who created this website for me.
then it struck me – i was slowly but surely letting this blog die.
i am currently sitting on my bed, planning out my music selection for a gig tomorrow night, so when i stumbled across this goodie by purity ring, i figured, it would be rude not to share it with you.

you all know me well enough by now to know that i have what could be considered a dangerous obsession with surf rock.
dangerous because i would quite happily stay in and listen to these tunes alone in lieu of actual human interaction.
girls – honey bunny quite possibly the perfect accompaniment for those lazy summer days spent laying in the park reading a book.*
*read: illegally drinking wine & swatting flies.

are back with a brand new track, ‘born to lose’.
it’s loud & loaded with double bass drum kicks.
i like it.
happy friday.

whenever i step foot in to the corner hotel, i am instantly transported to 2001; sitting on the stage under simon hepburn’s feet while he frantically strummed away on his guitar, taking photos for a school assignment. it was essentially my first foray into the world of music journalism.
last thursday evening i walked into the venue, and immediately felt the giddiness sweep over my body.
with a beer in tow, i perched on staircase, making full use of this vantage point, and settled in for 60 minutes of auditory bliss courtesy of husky.
concerto piano solos, a drummer with an angelic voice and a spine tingling 7 minute acoustic rendition of one of their songs that literally had me smiling from ear to ear were not what i was expecting; it takes a bit to blow me away these days, but this incredibly talented quartet managed to do so with ease.
genuinely pleased to be performing in front of their home crowd, husky gifted us with one beautifully constructed song after another; and i, spent the rest of the evening floating blissfully on cloud 9.
the words “best live gig of 2011″ were thrown around the office the following morning, an office which just happens to be full of musicians, their publicists and bookers.
big call? perhaps…but i’d like to think we know what we’re talking about.

today i catch up with the boys from canyons to discuss their long awaited album ‘keep your dreams’.
“if i tried to listen to an album with 10 dance songs, i’d be pretty bored by the third track”, says leo, a talented multi-instrumentalist, “that’s why we don’t want to be pigeonholed as a dance/electronic act, or dj/producers, because we’re two musicians exploring a creative energy that could end up just about anywhere.”
word.
2 years in the making, with guest appearances from pond frontman nick albrook, and tamp impala’s kevin parker…just for you my dears.

i became very well aquainted with a blonde ponytail last night.
it did not belong to me, nor did it belong to some indie babe i was swooning over, but rather it was sprouting from the back of a girls head who i was smooshed up against in the mercat bandroom last night.
chat faker had taken to the stage, and every cool kid/friend in melbourne had crammed in to the “so shit its hip” venue to see him and his band.
well, we couldnt see a god damn thing, but what i heard, was amazing. granted it wasn’t the highest of sound quality, but his delivery was impeccable, and a testament as to why he has garnered such a strong following in such a short amount of time.
listen up. drink it up.

recommended to me by a pal in sydney, flume is probably the greatest thing to happen to the remix genre…ever.
there are no words to describe his sound other than fucking cool.
add it to your playlist immediately.
